AHIC Values and Expectations: Maximizing the Value of Our Community Events
At AHIC, our fundamental mission is to bring affordable housing professionals together to connect, learn, and develop best practices. What makes our events unique is our emphasis on substantive content and collaborative learning.
While many industry conferences prioritize networking opportunities, AHIC events are designed around meaningful engagement in carefully curated programming. We welcome both new and returning attendees and want to ensure everyone understands the distinctive culture that makes AHIC events so valuable:
- Active Participation. We expect all attendees to fully participate in programming sessions to benefit from the insights of our speakers and the collective expertise of our community. Your presence in the room honors the significant effort made by our Program Committee and speakers, and enriches the experience for everyone. We hope you will come ready to ask questions and share experiences. The knowledge gained during these sessions often enhances the quality of conversations during networking opportunities.
- Designated Networking Time: Individual meetings should only be scheduled during our designated networking breaks (typically mid-morning, during lunch, and mid-afternoon). These structured breaks ensure you can have meaningful one-on-one conversations while still benefiting from our full program of events.
- Third-Party Event Scheduling Guidelines: No private meetings, dinners, or receptions should be scheduled during AHIC programs, receptions, or official dinners. This approach ensures all attendees can fully engage with the broader AHIC community and make the most of their AHIC experience.
- Preserving Investor Conversations: AHIC is uniquely positioned as the organization where housing equity investors can gather for candid, peer-to-peer conversations. When registering, please accurately represent your role as either an Investor Representative or Affiliate Representative to maintain the integrity of our investor-only events (i.e., AHIC’s Spring Meeting, Investor-Only Third Thursdays and Peer Meetups). This distinction allows for open dialogue that addresses the specific needs of investors. If you're uncertain about how your role is categorized, please refer to our Explainer.
- No Unauthorized Audio or Video Recording. Attendees may not record (audio or video) AHIC sessions, whether in-person or virtual. This ensures a confidential and open exchange of ideas.
If you have questions about these expectations or suggestions for enhancing the AHIC experience, please speak with any AHIC staff member in-person at our events or contact Kim Duty, AHIC's Executive Director, at kduty@ahic.org or 303/475-9695.
Thank you for being a valued member of our community. We look forward to your active participation!
