    Dear Fellow AHIC Members:

We hope you enjoyed our jam-packed Spring Meeting in Washington, DC, and are planning to attend AHIC's always popular but more compressed Summer Meeting on June 19-20 in Chicago.

The event opens on Tuesday, June 19th at 4 pm with a joint meeting with state leaders attending the National Council of State Housing Agencies' Housing Credit Connect Conference. Our sessions with the HFAs are an exciting way to continue to strengthen relationships and share ideas with our allocating agency partners. This year, our panel of HFA leaders and investor representatives will address issues of concern to AHIC members including underwriting mixed income developments, cost containment, the new income averaging rules, and timeliness of 8609s.

We then head to an AHIC Welcome Reception at ACE Bounce, 230 N. Clark Street, from 6:00 - 7:30 pm, to catch up with old friends and network to make new ones.

Wednesday has a terrific line-up of sessions and peer–to–peer learning opportunities:

    • We will explore what impact the new federal Opportunity Zones will have on affordable housing finance – can the new OZ Funds leverage LIHTC? Will there be opportunities for investors? States are selecting their zone locations now, we need to be on top of the possibilities.
    • Then we take a fascinating deep dive into cost segregation studies. With the new tax landscape, some developers and syndicators may take an aggressive approach to defining personal property for depreciation purposes. How much is too much, and how do investors protect themselves?
    • And finally, it’s always hard to pick one roundtable discussion topic, there are so many interesting ones to choose from. So we are once again making time for you to select two groups to join, including multi-investor funds; underwriting; dispositions; preservation funds, economic investors; and asset management.

Following lunch, which includes Committee Meetings, we will adjourn in time for the NCSHA plenary.

Registration is now open! This year we are sharing NCSHA’s conference hotel, The Hyatt Regency Chicago. Register for AHIC, and then hotel information will be sent to you with your meeting payment confirmation.

Accommodations: The host hotel is now sold out. To follow are alternate hotels in close proximity to the Hyatt Regency:

If you have any questions, contact AHIC's Administrator, Briana Kovar, at 571-293-0998.

We look forward to seeing you in Chicago for an engaging and lively time together.

    Sincerely,
Jill Edwards and Laurie Levitt Schoenburg
